Happy Aloha Friday! It’s a windy and rain soaked Happy Aloha Friday! It’s a windy and rain soaked morning in the northwest on Maui this morning with large surf continuing out of the north. The South Shore has the calmest areas early, but conditions can change quickly. Watch for brown murky water from the recent rains and never swim or snorkel in murky water. Check the snapshots below for more details.

Northwest: 2.0

Conditions are still highly hazardous. Large, powerful waves, a strong undertow, and fast-moving currents continue to impact the area. Visibility remains poor with sand stirred up in the water. Inside Kapalua Bay, the waves are slightly smaller, but the water is still very active, and currents become extremely strong as you move into deeper areas. Strong winds, cloud cover, and passing showers are also in the forecast.

Ka’anapali: 5.5

Kahekili Beach and Black Rock are showing some improvement this morning, but the surf and wind may still cause challenges and stir up sand. Waves are expected to continue decreasing throughout the day, though they’re still impacting the area, and wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph by this afternoon. Currents remain strong across the zone and especially in deeper water, so avoid going past the point. Conditions should keep improving over the next couple of days.

South Shore: 7.0

A mix of sunshine, clouds, and light morning breezes is shaping up a beautiful beach day on the south shore. Kamaole I, II, III, and Ulua Beach are calm with small waves, though a bit of sand may still get stirred up. Farther south near Wailea and Makena Landing, the water is choppier with larger surf. As winds increase later, ocean conditions may turn rougher, and afternoon showers are likely.
