Extremely strong winds across Maui should start to calm down tomorrow. For today, gusts could reach 50 mph, and a wind advisory remains in effect. Still, good snorkeling can be found. Conditions will likely shift several times throughout the day. Please assess the conditions before heading out.

Northwest: 6.5

Winds are extremely strong with scattered showers moving through this morning, though clearing is expected. Conditions are dangerous outside the bays, with powerful currents and rough water. Inside Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay, there are still calm areas with clear visibility, but don’t venture too far where currents get very strong. Surf may increase later.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 7.0

Strong winds may ease up before returning later. Kahekili Beach Park is looking good early, with clear water, though currents in deeper water are extremely strong. It will become rough as winds increase. The south face of Black Rock offers some protection near shore, but currents near and beyond the point are hazardous. Scattered showers are possible.

South Shore: 7.0

The south ends of Kamaole I, II, and III are offering the calmest water and lightest winds this morning. There are some small waves that could stir up sand. Wailea and Makena are seeing stronger winds and more surf this morning, though things will likely calm down before turning rough again later. Mostly sunny, winds are expected to increase this afternoon.
