It’s a beautiful Sunday on Maui, with sunshine in many areas and clear water to start the day. A wind advisory is in effect, with gusts up to 50 mph possible. Some zones are already feeling the effects, and conditions may shift quickly. Stay aware of strengthening winds and rising seas.

Northwest: 7.0

Winds are very strong, with clouds and a few showers moving through. Despite that, conditions inside the bays remain pretty calm, especially at Honolua Bay and Kapalua Bay. Outside the bays, it’s dangerously rough, with a sharp line where strong currents take over. Stay close to shore and avoid swimming out too far. If showers stay light, conditions inside the bays may hold.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 7.5

Winds are increasing today, especially around Kahekili Beach and the open stretches north of Black Rock. Kahekili still looks decent early on, but currents are already strong in deeper water and surface conditions will become rough later. The south face of Black Rock is offering some protection from the wind and may stay calm longer, but caution is key near the point where currents become dangerous.

South Shore: 8.0

Sunshine and light winds are making for a great start this morning. Conditions depend on how quickly the winds arrive. They should hold off and stay nice for a while, but if they ramp up early, expect rough and choppy seas. The Kamaole Beaches, Ulua, Wailea, and Makena Landing are all looking excellent this morning, with mostly small waves, though a few areas have slightly elevated surf.
