Happy Aloha Friday on Maui! Ka’anapali and the South Shore are offering the best potential, while waves and strong wind are making the Northwest more hazardous. Conditions can shift quickly. You can check the live beach cameras in our emailed report for changes.

Northwest: 5.0

Kapalua Bay is the most calm, although currents become very strong out near the points. Waves are hitting exposed areas and are hazardous in some spots, even though they aren’t especially large. Surf could pick up later, and winds are already very strong with a chance of passing showers.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Please avoid if possible. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 7.5

The south face of Black Rock should offer good wind protection and a pocket of calm water for most of the day. Currents are strong near the point. Kahekili Beach Park could calm down and be really nice before rough water returns as winds increase. Some surging waves make entry and exit tricky. Mostly sunny, with clouds possibly forming later.

South Shore: 7.0

This morning is looking really nice, with calm water at Kamaole Beaches 1, 2, and 3, as well as Ulua Beach. Makena Landing should also be great early, though surf and wind are expected to increase by midday, making conditions rougher and choppier across the zone. There are still some waves to thoughtfully avoid when getting in and out. Mostly sunny skies are expected.
