THE SKINNY

Happy Aloha Friday! Snorkeling conditions around Maui are improving as strong winds begin to ease, but gusts up to 30 mph may occur. There’s a chance of possible rain showers and cloudy skies this afternoon, so head out this morning for the best conditions.

Northwest: 7.5

Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay are calm and clear, but anticipate strong wind gusts. Stay close to shore and avoid swimming too far out, as the currents can become very strong near the points and beyond the bays. We may experience continued strong winds, cloud cover, and scattered showers throughout the day.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 8.5

Kahekili Beach Park is looking good this morning, with calm, clear water. Though currents are strong in deeper areas. Conditions may become rough again if the wind shifts. The south face of Black Rock is looking great offering wind protection near shore, but be mindful not to go out past the point.

South Shore: 8.0

Excellent conditions early today, with sunshine and light wind. Small shoreline waves are present but easy to avoid with care. Kamaole I, II, and III are looking good, along with Ulua Beach and Makena Landing. Winds may pick up this afternoon and the water could become quite choppy.
