THE SKINNY

Maui is waking up to another beautiful day, with calm water in many spots and mostly sunny skies. Some areas may see a bit more cloud cover, and afternoon winds are still expected to increase. Overall, it’s a great start across the island, with a few things to keep an eye on.

Northwest: 8.5

Despite strong winds, the bays are offering calm and inviting water. Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay are both looking super calm and clear, and conditions should remain steady inside the bays through much of the day. Just be cautious not to swim out too far, as currents become extremely strong near and beyond the points. Expect a mix of sun and clouds, with scattered showers possible.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 9.0

Snorkeling is excellent this morning, especially along Kahekili Beach Park where the water is calm and visibility is clear. Winds appear light enough to keep things nice for most of the day, but conditions could shift quickly when they pick up. Currents remain strong in deeper water. The south face of Black Rock is also superb this morning, offering calm conditions near shore, though currents are very strong beyond the point.

South Shore: 8.0

Sunny skies and excellent conditions this morning. Some waves are present on the shoreline, but nothing too disruptive. Be cautious getting in and out. All three Kamaole beaches, along with Ulua Beach, Wailea Beach, and Makena Landing, are looking great early. Winds are expected to increase this afternoon, and conditions will likely get rough.
