Maui is starting off with pockets of calm water this morning. A High Wind Advisory is in effect, with gusts up to 50 mph, so conditions may shift quickly. While some areas are beautiful early on, strong winds and scattered showers could lead to rough seas later. Stay cautious and check conditions before heading out.
Extremely strong winds and passing showers are sweeping through this morning. It’s dangerously rough outside the bays, with powerful currents and choppy seas. Honolua Bay and Kapalua Bay have areas of calm water near shore, but currents become very strong farther out. If rainfall increases, runoff could affect water quality as well.
*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.
Ka’anapali: 7.0
Winds are extremely strong, with a chance they ease mid-morning before picking back up. The south face of Black Rock offers wind protection and a calm pocket, but strong currents near and beyond the point make it unsafe to go far. Kahekili Beach Park looks good near shore, though deeper water has strong currents. Small waves are breaking along the shoreline, and rough conditions are likely later.
South Shore: 7.5
The Kamaole Beaches, Ulua, Wailea, and Makena Landing are all looking calm and pleasant this morning, with just a few small waves to watch near shore. Conditions should hold for a while, though strengthening winds are expected to bring rough seas by this afternoon. Skies are partly sunny now, with the sun beginning to burn off some of the lingering clouds.
