THE SKINNY

Maui is offering fantastic snorkeling in certain areas this morning. Winds were expected to ease, but strong gusts are still holding on. Conditions could shift several times with a mix of wind, sunshine, and passing showers. Have a lovely day!

Northwest: 7.0

Winds are strong this morning, creating extremely powerful currents near the points and outside the bays. Scattered showers are likely early. Inside Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay, conditions are still pretty calm, offering great snorkeling. Please don’t swim out too far, as currents become hazardous. These bays should hold up well for most of the day.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 8.5

Snorkeling is looking fantastic, with clear water despite breezy winds. Kahekili Beach Park is especially nice early, though currents are strong in deeper areas and it may get rough later if winds increase. The south face of Black Rock is also looking inviting, with good visibility, although there are some waves. Mostly sunny, with the chance for clouds developing later.

South Shore: 8.0

Conditions are looking great this morning, with clear water and sunshine in most areas. There are some small waves in spots, but overall it’s looking solid. Just take care getting in and out. Ulua Beach, the Kamaole beaches, Wailea Beach, and Makena Landing are all starting off strong. Strong winds expected later. Water’s smooth but might need to box by midday.
