THE SKINNY

Happy Aloha Friday on Maui! It’s a beautiful beach day. A small south swell is just big enough to affect some areas. Northwest Zone waves are starting to build. Light onshore winds this afternoon could make the water a little bumpy. Conditions can change, so be sure to check the live cameras below on the emailed report for updates.

Northwest: 4.0

Waves are starting to rise and are expected to become hazardous today. This morning, the inside of Kapalua Bay is looking really nice, though currents become strong near the point. The innermost part of Honolua Bay is also looking calm, with some surging little waves on the shoreline and likely rising waves and currents farther out on the point. Bigger waves are already crashing at more exposed beaches.

Ka’anapali: 7.5

A beautiful sunny beach day with light winds. Surf has picked up just a little, so it’s important to keep an eye on it and avoid any waves. The south face of Black Rock is very clear this morning, but be aware that currents are strong near the point. Kahekili Beach, also known as Airport Beach, is looking very clear this morning. Be mindful of waves when getting in and out, and know there is potential for the surf to pick up a bit more this afternoon.

South Shore: 6.0

Incredibly beautiful beach day. There are some waves along the shoreline, with the smallest surf in South Kihei near the Kamaole Beaches, where it’s looking fun for boogie boarding. The surf may calm down enough for clear visibility in some areas. Just keep caution in mind while assessing conditions. Waves are bigger and more hazardous in the Makena and Wailea areas.
