Maui is offering some calm water for snorkeling this morning. The main factor today will be increasing winds and the chance of rain, which may show up at different times depending on the zone. Afternoon winds will likely make the ocean rougher in many areas. For updates as conditions change, check the live beach cameras in the emailed report.
Visibility is clear and the water is calm inside Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay, offering a nice start to the day. The main concerns are strong winds and the potential for rain, though it might not arrive until later, or at all. Currents become extremely strong out near and beyond the points, so it’s important to stay inside the bays..
*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Do not leave waste in this area.
Ka’anapali: 8.0
Kahekili Beach Park is looking calm early, with conditions likely to stay nice through the morning before becoming rougher later on as winds increase. The south face of Black Rock has clear visibility, with occasional surging waves to thoughtfully avoid. Currents become very strong out near the point in deeper water. There’s a chance of scattered showers, most likely this afternoon.
South Shore: 8.5
The water is calm and inviting across the South Shore this morning. Kamaole I, II, and III, Ulua Beach, and Makena Landing all look good early, with a few small waves to avoid when getting in and out. The waves could pick up later. Rain is less likely here, though still possible, and winds will likely strengthen this afternoon, making the ocean rough. As usual, currents become stronger in deeper areas.
