Aloha, Maui! We made it through the storm, and rec Aloha, Maui! We made it through the storm, and recovery is underway. Ocean conditions still require extra caution.. Runoff, debris, and bacteria may affect water quality, especially near streams and storm drains. The Hawaiʻi Department of Health recommends waiting at least 48 hours after heavy rain before entering affected areas. Always avoid brown or murky water.

A rising south swell is also bringing increasingly hazardous waves to exposed shores. Road hazards remain as cleanup continues around the island. Please use extra caution while traveling today.

Northwest: 3.5

Water quality remains a concern. Honolua Bay has extremely brown water and should be avoided. Kapalua Bay is fairly calm this morning, with waves beginning to pick up and very strong currents if you swim too far especially near the points. Water quality may also be an issue here. The south swell is reaching Napili, where waves are becoming hazardous. Strong winds and scattered showers are expected.

Ka'anapali: 2.5

The south swell is bringing rising surf throughout the zone, with increasingly hazardous waves in exposed areas. The waves are smallest along Kahekili, though they are breaking and picking up. Water quality may still be affected by runoff from the storm, even where the water looks clearer this morning. Be especially cautious near storm drains and any areas of discoloration or debris. Waves will continue building today.

South Shore: 2.0

Water quality is a major concern following the heavy rain and flooding, with brown water still affecting areas. Runoff, debris, and bacteria may remain even as the water begins to clear. A building south swell is also bringing increasingly hazardous surf.. The waves are smallest along the Kamaole Beaches, while Makena is already seeing the most dangerous surf. Check with the lifeguard if you’re unsure. Always avoid brown or murky water.
