Surf around Maui has dropped, with the South Shore

Surf around Maui has dropped, with the South Shore and Ka’anapali having the best potential for clam water and sunshine. While there are still some waves, many beaches are calm enough to enjoy. As always, take a moment to assess conditions before heading out, as things can change. You can check the live cameras in the emailed report below.

Northwest: 4.0

There are still waves in the area, though they’re smaller than they’ve been. Some are surging high onto the beaches in the bays and crashing out on the points, where currents are also extremely strong. The smallest surf is inside Kapalua Bay. We expect scattered showers, along with very strong winds.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Please avoid if possible. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 7.0

Visibility looks good, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Some waves are surging high on the shoreline, and currents could be challenging. The south face of Black Rock is more protected, with calmer water and less wind exposure, though currents beyond the point remain hazardous. Kahekili Beach Park may also be inviting this morning, but increasing winds could stir things up, along with a chance of passing showers sometime.

South Shore: 6.0

With light winds this morning, there’s potential for calmer water at the south ends of the Kamaole Beaches and Makena Landing, especially if care is taken getting in and out around the waves. That said, occasional elevated sets are still rolling through, and Wailea is seeing more consistent surf. Conditions could turn rough as winds increase, and there’s also a chance of scattered showers later in the day.
