Fishing line left behind at the beach can be a serious hazard for Maui’s green sea turtles. 🐢

At Makena Landing and other Maui beaches, you’ll find Fishing Line Recycling stations. If you find used fishing line, please pick it up safely, if it’s safe to collect, and place it in one of these recycling stations.

If you see a sea turtle that has been accidentally hooked or becomes entangled, don’t try to remove the line yourself. Call 808-286-2549 for assistance.

We’re proud to partner with The Marine Institute to help educate visitors and protect Maui’s ocean life. Through our Turtle Adoption Program, 100% of every adoption goes directly to The Marine Institute, supporting their work in sea turtle education, conservation, and other marine-life projects.

Each adoption includes the story of a turtle that has been rescued and recovered—including turtles who have suffered fishing line injuries.

It’s a beautiful Maui beach day, with mostly sunny

It’s a beautiful Maui beach day, with mostly sunny skies in Kaʻanapali and along the South Zone, while the Northwest has some rain this morning. Category 5 Hurricane Lowell is fairly far from Maui, though it is sending powerful waves our way.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory, with surf expected to continue rising throughout the day. Be very cautious along the shoreline and avoid areas with breaking waves. For the latest on Hurricane Lowell, got to : www.weather.gov/hfo

Northwest: 4.0

Rain this morning should clear, though more showers are possible throughout the day. Winds are very strong. The stream in Honolua Bay is flowing and much of the bay has brown, murky water. Avoid entering the ocean anywhere the water is murky. Kapalua Bay has increasing waves that are already affecting visibility, with very strong currents near the points. The surf is also picking up in Napili.

Ka'anapali: 3.5

Beautiful sunny skies and light winds this morning, though waves are already breaking and surging in areas. Kahekili has some of the smaller waves early, but the surf is expected to continue building throughout the day. Shore breaking waves are already powerful south of Black Rock. Winds will also strengthen into the afternoon, adding to the rough conditions. Please use extra caution as conditions can change quickly today.

South Shore: 3.0

Sunny skies and light winds are making for a beautiful day. Waves are already breaking and are expected to keep building throughout the day. The Kamaole beaches have some of the smaller waves early, though will be affected as the surf rises. Winds should increase into the afternoon, with increasingly rough and hazardous conditions expected.
