Snorkeling around Maui is best in Ka’anapali and

Snorkeling around Maui is best in Ka’anapali and the South Shore today. The waves in the Northwest are getting smaller.

Northwest: 6.0

Kapalua Bay again has the calmest water and is looking really nice for snorkeling. Be aware, currents are strong farther out from shore, especially around the points and outside of the bays. Elsewhere, waves are breaking but are getting smaller. Super strong winds and increasing clouds with possible scattered showers.

Ka’anapali: 8.0

—> Because of ongoing relief efforts, please be extremely mindful in this zone.

Breezy winds this morning, but the waves are very small. As long as we stay closer to shore to avoid strong currents, snorkeling conditions are good. Kahekili Beach Park may get too windy later, while the south face of Black Rock offers great wind protection all day. Mostly sunny although clouds may move through.

South Shore: 7.5

Sunshine and light winds this morning. There are some choppy little waves in areas, but this morning the Kamaole beaches, Ulua Beach, and Makena Landing are looking really good this morning. Winds expected to create rough seas and wind waves this afternoon. Currents are already very strong farther out from shore.

The Black-Lipped Butterflyfish is a species of mar

The Black-Lipped Butterflyfish is a species of marine ray-finned fish. It is distinguished by a black vertical bar across the eye and a black snout. Found from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands and Samoa, and from southern Japan to Australia and New Caledonia, it inhabits depths of 4–61 meters in deeper lagoons, channels, and seaward reefs.

Typically swimming singly or in pairs during breeding, these fish are oviparous omnivores, feeding mainly on soft coral polyps, algae, and zooplankton.

Taxonomically, it was first described in 1790 by Marcus Elieser Bloch with its specific name honoring Jacob Theodor Klein. It is closely related to the Tahiti Butterflyfish.
