Happy Aloha Friday on Maui. There’s a higher chance of scattered showers and possible thunderstorms today, and it’s best to stay out of the water during any heavy rain. Surf has picked up in some areas, so please check conditions before heading out.

Northwest: 3.5

Conditions are becoming hazardous. Rain showers also expected. The inside of Kapalua Bay is the calmest spot this morning, though strong currents and crashing waves are present near the points. The stream at Honolua is beginning to flow, and there’s potential for the surf to rise today. Please keep caution in mind when assessing conditions, and it’s best to stay out of the water during any heavy rain.

*Honolua Bay temporarily has no restroom facilities. Please avoid if possible. Do not leave waste in this area.

Ka’anapali: 7.5

This morning is looking really nice, with calm water and clear visibility along the south face of Black Rock. Currents do become very strong out near and beyond the point, so please stay cautious. Kahekili Beach (also known as Airport Beach) is offering inviting conditions. There’s potential for waves to pick up, and while rain is in the forecast, it could stay dry. Afternoon winds may make things a bit bumpier.

South Shore: 6.5

Beautiful and sunny with light winds expected. Waves have picked up a bit, with the biggest surf farther south near Makena. South Kihei has the smallest waves, and snorkeling may still be nice at the Kamaole Beaches if waves are avoided when getting in and out. Wailea also has potential, though waves may get bigger. There is potential for rain showers at some point today. It might not arrive until much later, so we’ll see how things unfold.
